The Department of Justice is set to indict eight more personalities in the infamous Ampatuan massacre.”

As this developed, the lawyer for the victims Nena Santos expressed dismay as originally, they asked the DOJ to prosecute another 48 personalities in the connection with the massacre. But the DOJ dismissed the charges against the 40 who formed the second batch of people to be prosecuted.

Santos said they remain vigilant as the Ampatuans have appealed their conviction before the Court of Appeals. There are also reports of people talking with the families of the victims not to pursue charges case against the second batch of personalities.

In December 2019, Judge Jocelyn Solis-Reyes convicted dozens of people, including former Datu Unsay mayor Andal Ampatuan Jr., former Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao governor Zaldy Ampatuan, Anwar Ampatuan Sr., Anwar “Ipi” Ampatuan Jr., and Anwar Sajid “Ulo” Ampatuan, and several police officers, in December 2019, for their participation in the massacre that left 58 people dead, including 34 media practitioners.
