The families of the Skyway girder accident are seeking justice and immediate assistance.
A motorcycle rider was killed and four others were injured after a girder at the portion of the Skyway Extension Project in Muntinlupa city fell to the road on Saturday morning.
In a television interview, the wife of the lone fatality, motorcycle rider Edison Paquibot, said the entities or people behind the Skyway Extension Project should be held liable.
Edison, who was supposed to celebrate his birthday on Sunday, died of head trauma.
“Kailangan managot sila (They should be held liable). I don’t wish evil to anybody pero bakit yung asawa ko pa (but why my husband)?” Paquibot’s wife, Marilou, said in a television interview on Sunday.
Meanwhile, the taxi driver whose unit was crushed by the girder but escaped only with injuries said he hopes his destroyed taxi would be replaced.
Skyway project proponent San Miguel Corp. and contractor EEI Corp. have apologized for the incident.
The Department of Labor and Employment is set to probe the incident to find out if the project proponent and contractor have put in place the mandated safety standards. SOVEREIGNPH
