Leaders of the Group of 20 (G20) have pledged to “spare no effort” in ensuring the equitable worldwide distribution of vaccines for the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19), according to a document drafted during the latest G20 summit.
“We have mobilised resources to address the immediate financing needs in global health to support the research, development, manufacturing and distribution of safe and effective Covid-19 diagnostics, therapeutics and vaccines,” the draft document said.
“We will spare no effort to ensure their affordable and equitable access for all people, consistent with members’ commitments to incentivize innovation,” it added.
The G20 also reaffirmed their support to poor, debt-laden countries, and support “multilateral” trade.
The two-day G20 gathering that began on Saturday was held virtually in Dubai and hosted by Saudi Arabia.
G20 nations have so far contributed more than $21 billion to combat the global Covid-19 pandemic. SOVEREIGNPH
