The House of Representatives is seeking to add P5 billion to the proposed calamity fund proposed contained in the 2021 General Appropriations Bill (GAB) that is still pending in Congress. This is being considered amid the recent typhoons the struck the country.
The lower chamber approved the 2021 General Appropriations Bill (GAB) before Typhoons Quinta, Rolly and Ulysses hit parts of the country.
Records show that the proposed budget for next year only has P20 billion allocated for calamity funds, and P5 billion of that will be for the rehabilitation of Marawi while P6.25 billion will be for the augmentation of the quick response funds of various government agencies. While the proposed P4.5-trillion budget for 2021 is bigger than last year’s P4.5-trillion approved allocation, it was primarily crafted to help the Philippine economy recover from the battering it got from the coronavirus disease 2019 pandemic.
