The Department of National Defense (DND) said on Monday that despite challenges in funding, the country is still pushing for the acquisition of BrahMos cruise missiles that are touted to be one of the best in the world.
“The Brahmos (program) is moving forward but the challenge now is (the) funding,” DND Delfin Lorenzana said.
Earlier, Lorenzana said the DND was planning to acquire at least “two batteries” of the BrahMos cruise missiles with each battery having three mobile autonomous launchers with two or three missile tubes each.
The procurement would be via “government-to-government mode.”
The BrahMos was jointly developed by India and Russia, with India now licensed to manufacture it. It was designed to destroy land- and sea-based targets and accelerates to very high speeds at its nears it target. SOVEREIGNPH
