THE Senate on Monday night pressed the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) to release its undisbursed funds amounting to P83 billion that could be used to assist victims of the recent typhoons and those badly affected by the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) pandemic.

This developed as senators adopted Resolution 574 of Senate Majority Leader Juan Miguel Zubiri that urged the DSWD to fast track the release of its idle funds for the sake of those suffering from the recent typhoons and the Covid-19 pandemic.

“People are clamoring for help, workers and employees displaced by the pandemic and victims of the typhoons, but their pleas remained unanswered,” Zubiri said during a hybrid plenary session on Monday.Zubiri learned the DSWD had unspent funds amounting to P75 billion from its regular budget and around P6.7 billion from allocations of the Bayanihan to Heal as One Act and the Bayanihan to Recover as One Act.
