Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Secretary Silvestre Bello III on Tuesday overturned the order issued by the department’s National Capital Region (NCR) office stopping construction work of the Skyway Extension Project, where an accident on Saturday involving a girder left one dead and four others injured.
Bello said that what he was expecting from the DOLE-NCR office was a report on the incident, which he ordered last Monday. He added that the decision to issue a work stoppage of the Skyway project will depend on the report DOLE-NCR Director Sarah Buena Mirasol will submit to him.
“I was expecting the report…… I’m not aware of any stoppage order issued by our NCR regional director or by the executive director of the Occupational Safety and Health Center,” he added.
The DOLE-NCR issued a stoppage order for the Skyway project contractor dated November 23, or two days after the accident.
Project proponent San Miguel Corp. and contractor EEI Corp. have apologized over the accident and vowed to extend assistance to the victims. SOVEREIGNPH
