Three individuals believed to be members of the dreaded Abu Sayyaf (ASG) terrorist group were killed in a firefight with security forces that intercepted them in the waters off Zamboanga City in early Wednesday.
The slain ASG members were also carrying explosives, making the police believe they were planning to stage a bombing in the city. They were identified as Radi Nalul Tahirin, Hasan Alimin and Abdilla Aspalin.
It was around 6:45 a.m. on Wednesday at the waters off Barangay Taluksangay that the three ASG members were intercepted by members of the various police units from Zamboanga City.
The three ASG members onboard a pumpboat then opened fire on the security forces, who in turn returned fire.
Two of the ASG members were wounded and were declared dead when they were brought to the Zamboanga City General Hospital for treatment.The other ASG member fell into the sea during the gunbattle and is believed to be dead. SOVEREIGNPH
