The Senate on Thursday approved on third and final reading the 2021 General Appropriations Bill (GAB) that contains the proposed P4.5-trillion national budget for 2021, with 22 of 24 senators voting in the affirmative.
However, the approved GAB will still be scrutinized as select members of the Senate and the House will soon convene the bicameral conference committee to reconcile differences and conflicts in their budgetting versions. This will then result in a single, unified bill for the P4.5-trillion 2021 budget.
Senator Juan Edgardo “Sonny” Angara, Finance Committee chairman, thanked the leadership of the Senate and his colleagues for devoting time to scrutinize the budget bill.
Angara pointed out the Senate stayed on schedule to pass the GAB as the country currently faces numerous challenges caused by the coronavirus pandemic and recent typhoons, among others.
Sen. Emmanuel “Joel” Villanueva also congratulated Angara, saying: “This is just to commend and congratulate our good friend, our seatmate and our brother, the hardworking chairperson of the committee on Finance, Sen. Sonny Angara for his dauntless efforts to pass the budget on time and walk the extra mile in sacrificing for the betterment of our people. Congratulations to the entire institution.” SOVEREIGNPH
