It looks like House Speaker Lord Allan Velasco and his allies will have a hard time in the next sessions in the Senate defending the proposed P4.5-trillion 2021 budget after Sen. Panfilo Lacson said it contained a “noticeable” increases in the allocations for the districts of congressmen who backed Velasco in the battle for the House leadership.
Lacson has raised the issue of the budget of the district of Camarines Sur, which Luis Raymund Villafuerte Jr. represents in Congress, that was significantly decreased. Villafuerte sided with former House Speaker Alan Peter Cayetano in the battle for the lower chamber’s leadership.
On the other hand, the senator realized noticeable increases in the allocations for the district of Albay Rep. Joey Salceda. Also, Benguet, now under the legislative care ACT-CIS Partylist Rep. Eric Yap, also got an increase in allocation. Salceda and Yap are allied with Velasco.
But Salceda was quick to defend the budget allocations.“The congressmen know the specific or unique needs of their constituents and we also know and understand the needs of the country,” he said in a press conference. SOVEREIGNPH
