The government will purchase another batch of doses of AstraZeneca’s vaccine for the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) the private sector representatives seal the deal to purchase the initial batch of 2 to 3 million doses.
Dr. Jaime Montoya of the Philippine Council for Health Research and Development, an agency under the Department of Science and Technology, said the private sector purchase is part of the tripartite agreement with the UK-based drug firm and the government.
“This tripartite agreement is funded by the private sector and we appreciate their support. This is apart from the vaccines to be provided by the Philippine government,” Montoya said in an online briefing on Friday.
Presidential Adviser for Entrepreneurship Joey Concepcion earlier said the private sector is backing the purchase of up to 3 million doses of AstraZeneca’s Covid-19 vaccine.A number of the country’s tycoons or billionaiies are reportedly pooling their resources for the initial vaccine purchase from AstraZeneca, which earlier announced it is offering its vaccine at $2.50 per dose under a “no-profit” pledge.
