The 17 mayors of the localities in the National Capital Region (NCR) may consider a more relaxed quarantine status only after the holidays or by next year, as they still see a need for social distancing to avoid spikes in coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) cases in NCR.
National Task Force Covid-19 Response Chief Implementer Carlito Galvez Jr. said on Thursday during the Laging Handa public briefing that mayors in NCR want the metropolis to remain under general community quarantine (GCQ) up to the end of the year. He added the mayors were “very cautious” in placing NCR under a modified general community quarantine (MGCQ) as it might cause a spike in Covid-19 cases.
“Ang recommendation po nila ay, just in case magkaroon ng easing of restrictions, ay maybe next year after the holidays (Their recommendation, just in case, are for restrictions to be eased maybe next year after the holidays),” Galvez said.
Metro Manila will remain under GCQ until November 30, while the majority of the country is now under the most lenient MGCQ.
Galvez, however, also called on local government officials in areas under the MGCQ to strictly implement quarantine protocols during the holiday season. SOVEREIGNPH
