Another Chinese company has obtained initial approval from the government to conduct local trials for its coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) vaccine.
Dr. Jaime Montoya of the Philippine Council for Health Research (PCHR) identified the Chinese firm as Clover Biopharma that obtained approval from the Philippines’ Vaccine Expert Panel (VEP) last November 20 to conduct local trials for the Covid-19 vacine. The first Chinese company allowed to conduct local trials was SinoVac Biotech.
The PCHR is attached to the Department of Science and Technology.
“The candidate vaccine already passed the VEP review and it is already under review by the Ethics Board,” Montoya said in an online forum.
He added that the Ethics Board is looking into “minor information” on Clover Biopharma’s vaccine, and that local trials will begin in late December or early February.
After the Ethics Board gives its approval to Clover Biopharma, the Chinese firm will still have to obtain approval from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to proceed with the local trials. SOVEREIGNPH
