Taguig-Pateros Rep. and former House Speaker Alan Peter Cayetano is rejoicing over the reelection of Cavite Rep. Abraham “Bambol” Tolentino as president of the Philippine Olympic Committee (POC).
“His reelection signifies the vote of confidence of the leaders of the national sport associations to a more progressive and responsive leader,” said Cayetano, expressing confidence that Tolenetino’s leadership will be “centered on the welfare of Filipino athletes.”
Tolentino is a strong political ally of Cayetano. The newly-reelected POC head was the chairman of the powerful House committee on accounts until he was replaced by the son of President Rodrigo Duterte and Davao Rep. Paolo Duterte after Cayetano was ousted as House leader.Tolentino is the lone member of the POC executive board who did not take part in filing a civil complaint against PHISGOC (Philippine Southeast Asian Games Organizing Committee) that Cayetano chairs. PHISGOC is under fire over its alleged failure to submit the audited financial statements of the 2019 Southeast Asian Games that the Philippines staged. SOVEREIGNPH
