Department of National Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana challenged the Makabayan bloc in the House of Representatives’ Makabayan bloc to denounce the atrocities of the New People’s Army (NPA).
Lorenzana issued the challenge following the death of 22-year old Jevilyn, the youngest daughter of Bayan Muna Rep. Eufemia Cullamat, in a clash between NPA terrorists and military troops on Saturday afternoon in the hinterlands of Barangay San Isidro, Marihatag, Surigao del Sur.
“We call on our representatives in the Makabayan bloc and all those who condone the atrocities committed by the NPA to denounce the divisive ideology that destroys the lives and property,” Lorenzana said.
“Let this incident bring to the fore the duplicity of the communist terrorist movement, whose members in the higher echelons pit Filipinos against fellow Filipinos,” he added.
The DND chief said the Army immediately evacuated Jevilyn’s remains from the clash site and coordinated with the family of Cullamat.
According to the Army, the encounter where Jevilyn was killed lasted for about 45 minutes before the NPA rebels retreated, leaving behind her dead body. Recovered from the clash site were assault rifles and propaganda paraphernalia. SOVEREIGNPH
