President Rodrigo Duterte called the Makabayan bloc “legal communist fronts” during a televised briefing on Monday.
The President made the remark amid the death of Jevilyn Cullamat, the youngest daughter of Bayan Muna Rep. Eufemia Cullamat, during an encounter between soldiers and the New People’s Army (NPA) in the hinterlands of Barangay San Isidro, Marihatag, Surigao del Sur on Sunday.
He even warned that: “Babae ilaban mo sa sundalo, patay sigurado (If a woman fights a soldier, she will die for sure).”
Duterte even warned that with the communists influencing indigenous peoples, the Lumads will be soon become extinct.
“You Lumads, go home. Tell your people that they are being deceived. They are really being deceived by the NPA. That’s the truth,“ he added in Filipino.
Department of National Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana ealier challenged the Makabayan bloc in the House of Representatives to denounce the atrocities of the NPA. He issued the challenge following the death of Jevilyn.
“We call on our representatives in the Makabayan bloc and all those who condone the atrocities committed by the NPA to denounce the divisive ideology that destroys the lives and property,” Lorenzana said. SOVEREIGNPH
