Multi-titled world boxing champion and Sen. Manny Pacquiao was sworn in as the new president of PDP-Laban, the political party of President Rodrigo Duterte.
Pacquiao was sworn in by House Speaker Lord Allan Velasco on Wednesday night as the party’s new executive president, which puts him in an excellent position to run either for president or vice president in upcoming 2022 polls.
The only boxer in to win titles in eight divisions replaced Sen. Aquilino “Koko” Pimentel 3rd who has been appointed as PDP-Laban’s executive vice chairman
“Senator Koko Pimentel is now Executive Vice Chairman of the Party and will work very closely with our Chairman President Duterte, National President Sen. Manny Pacquiao, and Executive Vice Presidential Speaker Lord Velasco,” said Ron Munsayac, PDP-Laban executive director.
In the past, Bob Arum, who used to promote Pacquiao’s fights, said the Filipino boxer is aspiring for the presidency in 2022.Pacquiao has been inactive for almost a year with his last fight being a decision win over former world welterweight champion Keith Thurman in Las Vegas in July last year.
