All local government units (LGUs) should be under the least restrictive modified general community quarantine (MGCQ) by the second quarter of 2021, a Department of Health (DOH) official said on Friday.

This was the response of DOH Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire to the query of Acting Socioeconomic Planning Secretary Karl Chua if the country is likely to remain under community quarantine until the end of 2021 due to the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19).

“The milestones na tinitingnan po ng gobyerno would be by next year dapat ang milestone is dapat even by the second quarter of the year and hope po ng Philippine government, ang goal natin ay lahat ng LGU ay MGCQ na tayo (The milestone that the government is looking at would be by next year, or by the second quarter the goal would be all LGUs would be under MGCQ),” Vergeire said in a media forum, but stating also that “nothing is certain at this point.”She said the DOH is planning from the third week of December to meet with local government officials to discuss their roles on the roll out of Covid-19 vaccines once these are approved for us by regulatory bodies.
