The Philippine National Police (PNP) office in Region 3 (Central Luzon) arrested on Friday a labor leader identified as the secretary of the New People’s Army (NPA)
The arrested labor leader, Jose Bernardino, however, denied ties with the NPA, saying he merely he organizes labor and transportation groups.
Bernardino was shown in a Saturday press briefing led by Brig. Gen. Valeriano de Leon, PNP-Region 3 police director, but was whisked away for inquest proceedings at the Pampanga prosecutor.
He had a bounty of P4.8 million because as he had been placed in the Department of National Defense-Department of the Interior and Local Government list of wanted persons.
Bernardino was arrested in Sapang Maisac village in Mexico, Pampanga on Friday based on a arrest warrant issued by a court in Nueva Vizcaya involved the killing of four soldiers in 2017 in Kasibu, a town in Nueva Vizcaya.
Despite his arrest, the PNP-Region 3 office said they were taking care of Bernardino as he has a heart condition and has been taking blood thinning medication. SOVEREIGNPH
