Valenzuela Mayor Rex Gatchalian suspended late on Monday the business permit of NLEX Corp. for its failure to address the traffic jams at the tollgates of the Northern Luzon Expressway that the city hosts.
This means that NLEX Corp. shall not collect toll fees from motorists using the tollgates of NLEX located in Valenzuela.
Previously, the mayor called on NLEX Corp. to address the massive traffic jams at the city’s tollgates, just as motorists using the expressway were asked to switch to the cashless payment system. NLEX Corp. uses the EasyTrip RFID (radio frequency identification) tag for its electronic toll collection at the expressway’s tollgate.
NLEX Corp. is also the operator of the Subic-Clark-Tarlac Expressway (SCTEX) that also uses the EasyTrip RFID for toll collection.
Earlier, Gatchalian rejected the appeal of NLEX Corp. for a 15-day extension to address the worsening traffic situation due to glitches in its electronic tollway collection system.
In a letter addressed to NLEX Corp. President and General Manager Luigi Bautista on Monday, Gatchalian said the company’s response to his complaint did not have any concrete action plan on how to resolve the issue.
Gatchalian said Bautista letter of response was “unsatisfactory, wanting, and fell short of concrete action plans, solutions, and fixes.” SOVEREIGNPH
