Members of the Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters (BIFF) attacked a military detachment in Datu Salibo, Maguindanao on Sunday that left six civilians and a soldier wounded.
This was the second attack by the BIFF on military positions in Maguindanao this December.
Lt. Col. Anhouvic Atilano, spokesperson for the military’s 6th Infantry Division, said on Monday that heavily-armed BIFF members attacked the Bravo Company detachment of the 6th Infantry Division in Datu Salibo, resulting in a clash that left a soldier wounded.
According to Atilano, the BIFF members fired grenade launchers and lobbed homemade bombs at the Army camp, forcing soldiers to fight back that drove the terrorists away.
But during the firefight, six civilians including two children were wounded from a mortar fired by the BIFF that hit a house instead of the Army camp, according to
Capt. Abdulbasit Kulod, the town’s police chief.
The wounded civilians suffered shrapnel wounds and were rushed to a hospital.
Sunday’s attack by BIFF members was the second staged by the terrorists in Maguindanao this month.
On December 9, the military foiled an attack by the BIFF on an Army detachment in Sharif Aguak, Maguindanao. No one from the government side was hurt in the attack, Atilano said.
Military forces, backed by Simba tanks and artillery fire, pounded the BIFF positions within a kilometer radius from the government forces’ detachment in the area that resulted in the withdrawal of the terrorists, he added. SOVEREIGNPH
