The House of Representatives approved on third and final the measures that extends the Bayanihan to Recover as One Act (Bayanihan 2) until June 30, 2021 and the 2020 national budget until December 31, 2021.
Bayanihan 2, which was supposed to expire on December 19 this year, provided funding for the government response to the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) pandemic. A total of P140 billion was allocated for Bayanihan 2.
Both measures were certified as urgent by PResident Rodrigo Duterte on early Monday.
Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque confirmed that Duterte has certified as urgent the bills extending Bayanihan 2 as well as the validity of the 2021 budget.
“This is to confirm that President Rodrigo Roa Duterte has certified as urgent the extension of the 2020 General Appropriations Act (GAA) and Bayanihan to Recover as One Act,” he said in a virtual presser.
The extension of Bayanihan 2 will allow agencies involved in the Covid-19 response effort to utilize their unused funds until June 30, 2021. Also, all government agencies that have unutilized funds under the 2020 budget will be allowed to use them until the end of 2021. SOVEREIGNPH
