Valenzuela Mayor Rex Gatchalian ordered on Wednesday to impose a “conditional lifting” of the suspension order on the business permit of NLEx Corp.
“Toll Holiday is ending at 12:01 pm, December 16, 2020, as Mayor @rex_gatchalian orders conditional lifting of the suspension order on NLEX Corporation’s business permit,” the local government unit (LGU) announced in a Facebook post.
The Valenzuela LGU and NLEX Corp. also agreed to lift the toll barriers in all cashless lane tollgates of the Northern Luzon Expressway in the city from 5 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily to facilitate traffic flow.
Both parties have also agreed to create a technical working group to develop solutions to the previous traffic snarls caused by glitches in NLEX Corp.’s cashless collection system that uses the radio frequency identification (RFID) system.
The traffic snarls caused by the RFID system prompted Gatchalian to temporarily suspend the business permit of NLEX Corp. last week, resulting in a toll collection holiday at the expressway’s tollgates in the city. The traffic snarls at the NLEX and other expressways caused by the cashless toll system required by the Department of Transportation prompted the Senate to conduct an inquiry on the issue starting Thursday (December 17).
