House Speaker Alan Peter Velasco got labelled as “the worst” by a lawmaker who was ousted on Wednesday as chairman of a House committee.
Anakalusugan party-list Rep. Mike Defensor labelled Velasco as such after he was replaced as chairman of the House Committee on Public Accounts on Wednesday night, which was the last session of the lower chamber prior to the Christmas break.
“He didn’t even have the courtesy to talk with me even as we had a short meeting last week as regards the investigation to be conducted by the Committee on Public Accounts. He even requested me that we all suspend investigations until January, which I respectfully agreed to,” said Defensor.
Probinsyano Ako party-list Rep. Bonito Singson, a close Velasco ally, replaced Defensor, who in turn is a known ally of ousted Speaker and current Taguig-Pateros Rep. Alan Peter Cayetano.
“Civility and leadership dictate that even as we have differences in the past leadership fight, that we treat each other in a respectable manner,” Defensor said.
“I am comforted by the thought that clear lines have been drawn and in the spirit of the season, I wish Speaker a Merry Christmas. See you next year,” he added.
Based on the gentleman’s agreement between Cayetano and Velasco for the term-sharing of the House leadership, there should be no major changes in major positions in the lower chamber, most especially for House committees. SOVEREIGNPH
