Five soldiers were injured in two clashes with terrorists from the Abu Sayyaf in Patikul, Sulu on Thursday.
The five “slightly wounded” soldiers were brought to the hospital and are in stable condition, according to the Armed Forces’ Joint Task Force-Sulu.
The first clash between the Abu Sayyaf under Abu Sayyaf top commander Radullan Sahiron and soldiers took place at around 8:40 a.m. in Barangay Pansul. The soldiers were from the Army’s 5th Scout Ranger Battalion (5SRB) and repelled the terrorists whose numbers were placed at around 30.
The second first clash between soldiers from the 5SRB and terrorists took place at around 1:30 pm also in Barangay Pansul.
When the terrorists withdrew, they figured later in a 30-minute fire fight with the 3rd Scout Ranger Battalion.
According to the military’s Joint Task Force-Sulu, the soldiers who pursued the terrorists found bloodstains at the Abu Sayyaf’s former positions, indicating casualties from the side of the enemy.
“More personal belongings of the Abu Sayyaf members were recovered in the encounter site. We have a few wounded, but the rest are still pursuing these terrorists,” said Maj. Gen. William Gonzales, commander of the Philippine Army’s 11th Infantry Division and Joint Task Force -Sulu. SOVEREIGNPH
