A senator said on Friday that Toll Regulatory Board (TRB) Executive Director Abraham Sales should resign over the traffic mess created by the cashless toll collection system being implemented at the Northern Luzon Expressway (NLEX).
Senator Grace Poe said Sales should resign before he gets sacked.
“Talagang sa tingin ko mag-resign na siya kaysa naman paalisin pa siya diyan. Sa tono ng mga binigkas ni Secretary Tugade, eh mukhang papunta doon (From what I have observed, Sales must resign than wait for him to be fired. From what Tugade has been saying, it might be headed that way),” Poe said in a television interview, referring to Department of Transportation (DOTR) Secretary Arthur Tugade.
“Tatlong taon nagkakaroon ng problema ang serbisyo ng concessionaire sa NLEX. Ni isang penalty o ni isang warning na ipinakita sa secretary, wala siyang ginawa (The concessionaire of the NLEX has encountered problems on the cashless toll system for three years. And the TRB gave no warning or penalty to the concessionaire that Sales can show to the DOTR secretary),” she added.
However, Poe said the fault is not only with Sales, as Tugade is the chairman of the TRB while DOTR Undersecretary Ruben Reinoso Jr., is an alternate representative to RTB board meetings. The DOTR is the mother agency of the TRB.
President Rodrigo Duterte himself has expressed dissatisfaction over TRB officials that he labeled as “inutile” and “deadwood” on Thursday.
“I do not want you becoming a dead wood. If you cannot perform what is expected of you, then the best you can do, for decency’s sake, resign and do not wait to be fired because masakit ‘yan, mapahiya ka (that is painful and embarassing),” he added. SOVEREIGNPH
