Two more pharmaceutical firms based in the United States are willing to supply vaccines for the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid) from the third quarter of next year, the Philippine Ambassador to the United States Jose Romualdez said.
He identified the other potential suppliers for the Covid-19 vaccines as
“I am pleased to report that, aside from Pfizer, Moderna and Arcturus are ready to supply the Philippines anywhere between 4-25M [million] of their respective vaccines starting Q3 2021 (third quarter of 2021), should the Philippine government find their proposals acceptable,” Romualdez said in a statement posted on the Philippine Embassy in the USA Twitter.
“We are hoping our government will consider the promising candidates of Moderna and Arcturus for inclusion in our country’s pool of anti-Covid vaccines,” he added.
Among the three firms, Pfizer already has an emergency approval from the US Food and Drugs Administration (FDA) for its Covid-19 vaccine while Moderna is just one step away from getting its own approval.
Besides the US-based firms, the Philippines is looking to source Covid-19 vaccines from Chinese and Russian firms. Meanwhile, the private sector has already placed orders for more than 2.6 million doses of AstraZeneca’s Covid-19 vaccine. SOVEREIGNPH
