President Rodrigo Duterte will decide the quarantine status of provinces across the country after the Christmas holidays, a Palace official said on Sunday.
Cabinet Secretary Karlo Nograles, also the co-chair Inter-Agency Task Force on Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF), said Duterte will meet with members of the IATF after Christmas to determine the quarantine status of provinces nationwide.
He also clarified that Metro Manila will remain under general community quarantine until the end of the year. He did not elaborate. There were rumors spreading on Saturday that the stricter modified enhanced community quarantine will be imposed in Metro Manila before Christmas.
The meeting will be on December 28 or 29 to assess Covid-19 data from regions and identify which will be placed under stricter quarantine status.
“After Christmas, the IATF will convene a meeting. Maybe on December 31, the President will have a decision on quarantine status for the month of January,” Nograles said in a radio interview.
He added local government units can impose lockdowns at the street or barangay level to contain the spread of Covid-19 with approval from the regional IATFs. SOVEREIGNPH
