The Zamboanga City government has allocated about P200 million from its budget for next year to buy vaccines for the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19).

The head of the City Health Office, Dr. Dulce Amor Miravite, said on Saturday that front-liners and members of the vulnerable population, including senior citizens, will be prioritized for Covid-19 vaccination.No details were disclosed where the Zamboanga City government will source its Covid-19 vaccines.

Miravite also clarified that the vaccination will not be compulsory.

“We need their consent to be vaccinated, and if they don’t want, we will not force them,” she said.

She said the local government will also allocate funds to employ at least 780 contact tracers.

She added that the city also has a pool of trained personnel assigned to conduct Covid-19 tracing and testing in the barangays. SOVEREIGNPH
