Malacanang condemned on Monday the policeman who shot and killed two unarmed civilians in Paniqui, Tarlac that apparently stemmed from an argument over a right-of-way dispute.
Palace Spokesman Harry Roque said the case involving Police Senior Master Sargeant Jonel Nuezca, 46 years old, who shot dead Sonya Gregorio, 52, and Frank Anthony Gregorio, 25 in Tarlac, will be treated like any other ordinary murder case as the policeman was off duty.
According to reports, Nuezca shot the mother and son at point blank range two times each in front of a child in broad daylight or at 5:10 p.m. on Sunday in Barangay Cabayaosan in Paniqui, Tarlac. The whole drama was caught in CCTV and the video has made rounds over social media and gone viral.
“This is not service-related double murder. The policeman (Nuezca) cannot invoke the defense that he was doing his duty. This will be treated like an ordinary murder case,” Roque said in Filipino.
“We condemn the act,” he added.
Senator Panfilo Lacson was among the first to condemn the act, saying the Philippine National Police should show “no mercy” towards Nuezca in prosecuting him.
At around 6:19 p.m. also on Sunday, the chief of the Rosales, Pangasinan informed the Paniqui police station that Nuezca has surrendered. He was immediately picked up by police from Paniqui that conducted an investigation into the murder. SOVEREIGNPH
