The fellow officers of the policeman gunned down by a motorcycle-riding assailant in Negros Occidental on Tuesday have denounced the murder of their colleague.
The victim, 37-year-old Staff Sgt. Ildefonso Casugod, was the intelligence officer of Pontevedra Municipal Police Station (MPS).
“The men and women of Pontevedra Philippine National Police strongly condemn in the strongest terms the killing of one of the members of this station,” the police officers led by officer-in-charge Capt. Hancel Lumandaz said in a Facebook post on Wednesday.
As a tribute, they thanked Casugod for his service to the police force.
“You have all your duties fulfilled, in your heart there was no guilt. So you shall forever stay at ease and in the heavens above…Justice will be served. Rest in peace, brother,” the group said.
Casugod, a father of three whose late father Wilfredo was also a police officer, was described by his superior as a hardworking and kind member of the police force.
On Tuesday, investigators were looking at a work-related angle in the probe since Casugod was involved in intelligence operations.
Palgue said it is also possible communists could be behind the killing. SOVEREIGNPH
