Twelve staff members of the Barangay Hall in Batasan Hills, Quezon City have been terminated for holding a Christmas party where those taking part violated health protocols to contain the spread of the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19).

In a statement, Batasan Hill Barangay Chairman Jojo Abad said the following have been relieved from their jobs or duties at the barangay hall: Leticia Samar, Michelle Saragcon, Ma. Elena Olesco, Nora Elizaga, Meann Ubang, Rowena Almonicar, Jocelyn Leonero, Ritchie Ancero, Manilyn Mejia, Gemma Relata, Marizen Misolas, and Alejandro Cabello.

“This termination of appointment is issued against the above-mentioned names from the Office of the Chairman due to disrespect of office protocols and insubordination,” Abad said in a letter to Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte.

The terminated personnel were also ordered to turn over all barangay hall properties in their possession such as uniform, identification cards and radio.

The 12 were relieved after the barangay chairman was notified by netizens who saw images of the party posted in social media by Misola where the participants supposedly violated health protocols to contain Covid-19.

Misola, however, said social distancing was only violated during picture taking.

Belmonte commended Abad’s swift action on the matter. SOVEREIGNPH
