With the livelihoods of many Filipinos hampered by the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) pandemic, Senator Christopher “Bong” Go shared the spirit of Christmas by distributing aid to 922 fisherfolks in Talisay City, Cebu on December 23.
In two separate distribution activities held in San Roque Gym and Tabunok Gym, Go’s team provided meals, food packs, masks, face shields and vitamins to the beneficiaries.
“Alam ko mahirap ang pamumuhay niyo dyan pero magtulungan lang tayo at malalampasan rin natin itong krisis na ating hinaharap (I know your work is not easy but let us all cooperate and we will be able to get through this crisis we are all facing),” Go said in a video call.
Go also urged the public to strictly follow health protocols to safeguard themselves and their communities from the threats of Covid-19 and other diseases this holiday season. He reminded fisherfolks to use masks and face shields in their day-to-day transactions.
During the distribution activities, Go’s team made sure necessary health protocols were strictly followed to protect the community from the further spread of Covid-19 and other diseases.
The Senator also assured the beneficiaries that once a safe and effective vaccine for Covid-19 becomes available in the market, he and President Rodrigo Duterte will prioritize the poor and the vulnerable.
“Lahat ng mahihirap dyan sa Talisay, uunahin natin para makabalik na tayo sa mga normal natin na pamumuhay (All the poor in Talisay will be prioritized for vaccination so your lives can go back to normal),” he said.
Go’s team also distributed bicycles to select recipients while others received tablets for their children’s use in online classes.
The Senator also urged beneficiaries with medical conditions to seek assistance in any of the nearby Malasakit Centers located at the Talisay City District Hospital in Talisay City; Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center and St. Anthony Mother & Child Hospital both in Cebu City; Lapu-Lapu City District Hospital in Lapu-Lapu City; and Eversley Childs Sanitarium and General Hospital in Mandaue City.
Meanwhile, personnel from the Department of Social Welfare and Development also provided separate financial assistance to the fisherfolks through their existing program that aims to assist individuals in crisis situations.
“Kami ni Presidente Duterte, patuloy kami na magseserbisyo sa inyo dahil para sa amin ang serbisyo sa tao ay serbisyo sa Diyos (I and President Duterte will continue to serve you because serving the people is serving God),” he said. SOVEREIGNPH
