The killer of overseas Filipino worker (OFW) Jeanalyn Villavende has been sentenced to death by hanging.
In a tweet late on Wednesday, Department of Foreign Affairs for Civilian Security and Consular Concerns Brigido “Dodo” Dulay said a Kuwaiti criminal court meted out the capital punishment on Villavende’s killer.
“A Kuwaiti criminal court has sentenced the murderer of OFW Jeanalyn Villavende to death by hanging,” Dulay said in over Twitter that was retweeted by Foreign Affairs Secretary Teodoro Locsin Jr.
Villavende was murdered in January this year, which sparked outrage among Filipinos.
Based on a report from the Department of Labor and Employment, Villavende was killed by her Kuwaiti employer’s wife, and was “black and blue” and dead when the OFW was brought to the hospital. It was also suspected that Villavende was raped.
Villavende’s killer being sentenced to hanging may be second for an abused OFW in Kuwait.
