Manila City Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso clarified on Sunday that he has no plans to run for president in 2022, and that he would rather focus on helping the country recover from the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) pandemic.
“Wala po (None yet),” Domagoso said in television an interview answering the question if he has plans to run for the country’s top post in 2022. A recent Pulse Asia survey of 2,400 respondents showed the Manila Mayor getting 12 percent of the votes of those surveyed, placing him second to the daughter of President Rodrigo Duterte, Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio.
He thanked those who believed he can become the country’s next president.
“It’s an honor, thank you very much. But let us go back to reality. Reality is there’s a pandemic and we, those names who were included in that survey, should continue to focus on the pandemic,” Domagoso said.
“I think the most important thing nowadays is what are we going to do today, what our plans today and what are we going to do in the next first quarter on the incoming vaccine. I think yun muna siguro ang mahalaga, (that is what is vital) more than political growth or career growth,” Domagoso said.
He added he would rather focus on governing Manila and fighting the Covid-19 pandemic. SOVEREIGNPH
