A controversial commissioner of the Presidential Anti-Corruption Commission (PACC) has been charged at the Office of the Ombudsman for alleged corruption and protecting the mayor and vice mayor of Lamitan, Basilan who are allegedly involved in the illegal drug trade.
With the help of FLAG-MAHARLIKA Secretary General Edwin Cordevilla, Dr. Chao-Tiao Yumol of Lamitan, Basilan lodged the corruption the cases against PACC Commissioner Greco Belgica before the Office of the Ombudsman in Quezon City on Wednesday.
The doctor also charged Belgica for neglecting the complaint he filed against the Lamitan City Mayor Rosita Furigay and her husband, Vice Mayor Roderick Furigay, who he said were involved in anomalies and the illegal drug trade.
Dr. Yumol even risked his life to expose the illegal activities of the mayor and the vice mayor. On December, 10, 2020, the doctor along with three colleagues in a Toyota Fortuner were suddenly shot by armed men riding their motorcycle along Lunzuran Rd. in Zamboanga City. Dr. Yumol miraculously survived.
“This is after I have exposed the level of corruption and drug industry that involves Lamitan City Mayor Rosita Furigay and her spouse Vice Mayor Roderick Furigay,” the doctor said.
Yumol said that he had a meeting with Belgica to bring to the commissioner’s attention the illegal activities of the mayor and her husband that lasted only a few minutes. However, the doctor said the PACC commissioner met with the mayor and his wife for six hours on Sept. 9, 2019.The doctor said Belgica practically exonerated the Furigays who did not attend a supposed press conference on the matter to clarify out the issues against them.
