Sadanga town in Mountain Province recorded its first case of coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19), or ten months since President Rodrigo Duterte declared a public health emergency due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Mayor Gabino Ganggangan said the town’s first Covid-19 case is a 43-year old female from Demang, Betwagan, who is asymptomatic and had no travel history and exposure to a known positive case.
To contain the possible spread of Covid-19 and facilitate complete and reliable contact tracing, Ganggangan ordered that Barangay Betwagan be placed on a lockdown until January 21.
“Individuals shall not enter or leave the barangay except for the Municipal Contact Tracing Team and the Municipal Health Office and other personnel authorized by the local government unit,” Sadanga said in a statement.
“All public gatherings such as weddings and other similar activities planned earlier which inevitably draw crowds shall be cancelled and prohibited until further notice,” it added.
It can be recalled that Ganggangan issued a moratorium on wedding celebrations several days before Christmas to Sadanga Covid-19 free.
Sadanga has been hailed for its cultural practices and discipline among the residents, showcasing the bayanihan spirit and resiliency amid the Covid-19 pandemic. SOVEREIGNPH
