Health Secretary Francisco Duque 3rd said on Sunday that the government is closing agreements with various producers of vaccines for the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19), of which details will be revealed tomorrow.
“We’re in the final stages of closing agreement with various manufacturers to vaccinate at least 60 to 70 percent of the population. Sec. Charlie and I will share details tomorrow. Kudos to our tireless inter-agency working round the clock on PRRD’s (President Rodrigo Roa Duterte) guidance on vaccines: Safe, steady, sure and secure,” Duque said over Twitter.
Charlie is Secretary Carlito Galvez Jr., the Chief Implementer of the Philippines’ Declared National Policy Against Covid-19.
To date, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has received three applications that have undergone review and assessment of the Department of Science and Technology-Vaccine Expert Panel (DOST-YEP) and the Single Joint Ethics Review Board (SJREB).
On December 28, the FDA granted approval for the conduct of clinical trials for the Covid-19 vaccine developed by Janssen Vaccines & Prevention B.V.
The FDA also approved on Friday the clinical trial for the vaccine developed by Clover Biopharmaceuticals Australi Pty Ltd.
“The FDA is currently awaiting response to clarifications for the proposed study on the Sinovac Life Sciences vaccine before issuing a decision on the application”, FDA Director General Eric Domingo said.
Acceptance and review of applications for Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) of Covid-19 vaccines is also underway.
