SEN. Christopher “Bong” Go on Sunday urged the government to communicate clearly to the public its Covid-19 (coronavirus disease 2019) vaccine roadmap to boost Filipinos’ confidence in vaccination.
Go, chairman of the Senate Committee on Health, stressed that an informed citizenry can also make contributions to “bayanihan” (cooperation) efforts to overcome the Covid-19 pandemic.
“Let us further improve the information dissemination campaign so that Filipinos won’t be afraid to be inoculated with the [Covid-19] vaccine if it is proven effective and approved by FDA (Food and Drug Administration),” Go said.
“Enlighten the people about the measures being undertaken by the government in acquiring enough, effective and safe vaccine because this benefit the entire country and hurdle the crisis brought about by Covid-19,” he added.
Aside from assuring that Covid-19 vaccines will be available for the public to help end the pandemic, Go said that is also the government’s responsibility to update the public on the status of its procurement and distribution plans for vaccines until “herd immunity” is achieved.
Go explained that the national Covid-19 vaccine roadmap would facilitate vaccine supply chain and ensure the equitable and systematic provision of the vaccine once stocks are available.
According to Vaccine czar Secretary Carlito Galvez, Jr., the country already signed an agreement for Covid-19 vaccines with the Serum Institute of India for at least 30 million doses. Also, China’s Sinovac will deliver 50,000 doses of its Covid-19 vaccines in February. SOVEREIGNPH
