President Rodrigo Duterte on Thursday said he only has only three to five years to live.
In his speech during the inauguration of the Metro Manila Skyway Stage 3 on Thursday, Duterte said he was already old and made an appeal to Filipinos to choose a successor in 2022 who can deal with corruption.
“I am asking it on behalf of the Filipino people, not for me. I am already old,” said Duterte, who is 75 years old.
“In three to five years, I am gone,” he added.
He also said during the same occasion that her daughter, Davao City Mayor Sarah “Inday” Duterte-Carpio will not be running for president in 2022.
“They are urging her to run, but my daughter is not running. I have told Inday not to run because I will pity her on what she will have to experience as president that I have experienced myself,” he said partly in Filipino.
The state of Duterte’s health has been a subject of speculation in the past two years, and was placed on the spotlight after he cut short his official trip to Japan in 2019 due to “unbearable pain” in his lower back and hips. SOVEREIGNPH
