Tuguegarao City Mayor Jefferson Soriano disclosed on Friday night that he has been tested positive for the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19).
The mayor’s announcement came just two days after he announced that Tuguegarao City will be placed under enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) for 10 days,
“From the City Hall where he was earnestly working while his office was on lockdown, the ambulance picked up City Mayor Jefferson P. Soriano to be brought to the isolation unit at Tuguegarao City People’s General Hospital after testing positive for Covid-19 today (Friday),” according to the official Facebook page of Tuguegarao.
“Based on the interview of a radio station with Mayor Soriano, he announced that he underwent the swab test yesterday (Thursday) with his security and driver where he tested positive for the said virus,” it added.
It was also disclosed that Soriano was asymptomatic.
On Wednesday, Soriano said the elevation of the quarantine status of the city was prompted by surge of Covid-19 active cases, which stood at 222 as of Wednesday. He also explained that the daily attack rate has already reached 10.4 percent, which, according to the Department of Health, places Tuguegarao at a high risk of getting more Covid-19 infections.
