Senator Bong Go is appealing to Filipinos to be united behind the efforts of government officials who are trying their best to secure the vaccines for the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19).
“I appeal to everyone to help build confidence in our vaccine roadmap. I call for greater unity among our elected and appointed officials by trusting the experts who are working hard to save lives and secure sufficient, safe and effective vaccines,” he said in a statement.
Go said precious time is being wasted in addressing the doubts towards the efforts of government officials spearheading the acquisition of Covid-19 vaccines for the country, resulting in more people facing the danger of getting infected and dying form the virus.
“Our number of Covid-19-related deaths already reached 10,000 and the whole world knows how crucial every second is in the implementation of a vaccine roadmap. Let us give meaning to their deaths and honor their sacrifices by saving the lives of others,” Go said.
“Instead of asking questions, let us help take action,” he added in Filipino.
Go said that while he supports the call for transparency on negotiations for the acquisition of vaccines, consideration must also be shown to the hardworking officials who both answer queries while trying to focus on what they are primarily mandated to do, which is to secure sufficient vaccines with proven safety and efficacy at the right price.
“Let us trust our government officials and health experts because they are doing what is best for the country and our people. And I assure you, they will be held accountable for their actions and they know the extent of their responsibilities,” Go said.
This means that President Rodrigo Duterte will eventually hold government officials who will commit corruption in the acquisition of Covid-19 vaccines.
“If President Duterte smells corruption, the officials involved get axed immediately,” Go said in Filipino.
The Senator said that now is the time for Filipinos to unite as the overarching goal of the country in these trying times is to beat the Covid-19 pandemic, and to help the Philippines recover from the crisis.
“Let us trust each other. Let us cooperate. Let us unite for the welfare of every Filipino,” Go said in Filipino.
