The Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF) is allowing Metro Manila mayors to defer the reopening of cinemas or movies to further contain the spread of the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19).
“Yung cinema po ang main concern namin ng Metro Manila Council. Pumayag naman po ang ating economic team ng IATF [Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases] na i-defer yung implementation ng pagbubukas ng cinema (Cinemas are the main concern of the Metro Manila Council. The economic team of the IATF is already okay with the deferment on the opening of cinemas),” Metro Manila Council (MMC) chairman and Parañaque City Mayor Edwin Olivarez said on Monday in a radio Teleradyo.
The MMC is the decision making body of the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA).
He added that the chances of people getting infected with Covid-19 cannot be discounted in cinemas as these establishments are airconditioned, and movies can run up to two hours.
The economic team of the IATF earlier said that it will allow cinemas to open to help businesses recover. SOVEREIGNPH
