The Philippines’ ambassador to the US is securing six million doses of the vaccines for the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) from Johnson & Johnson, which recently got emergency use approval from US regulators.
“Kausap na natin yung Johnson & Johnson. Alam natin na in-approve lang yan dito sa America. Meron tayong 6million na naka-reserve sa Johnson & Johnson (We are in talks with Johnson & Johnson and we already know that their Covid-19 vaccine was approved in the US. We already have 6 million doses reserved from them),” said Philippine Ambassador to the US Jose Romualdez said in a radio interview, adding the vaccines could arrive by the second half of 2021.
“Iyan dadating ng mga second half of this year, siyempre kasi yung production diyan e medyo ngayon pa lang maguumpisa ng full production (Those will arrive in the second half of this year, of course full production will has started),” he added.
The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) granted emergency use authorization to Johnson & Johnson’s single-dose Covid-19 vaccine on Saturday.
The announcement follows a Friday endorsement from the FDA’s advisory panel on vaccines. The new vaccine has a lower efficacy rate – 66 percent overall and 72 percent in the United States in preventing moderate to severe cases of Covid-19 – than the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines already in use.
