The country’s ambassador to Brazil has been fired by President Rodrigo Duterte from government service for abusing her Filipina household helper.
Dismissed from the government service was Philippine Ambassador to Brazil Marichu Mauro, who earlier held diplomatic posts in Italy and Belgium. In October last year, a Brazilian news channel aired videos of Mauro maltreating her 51-year old house help, sparking public outrage and a probe on her. She was immediately recalled to the Philippines.
“Yung ambassador doon sa Brazil who maltreated a household helper, ito repeatedly inflicted physical harm doon sa tao. (The ambassador in Brazil who maltreated a household helper, who inflicted physical harm on the person). The recommendation was, and I signed the order, the other day or last night, I signed the document affirming the decision,” he said.
“The decision metes out the penalty of dismissal from the service,” he added.
This also means Mauro will suffer forfeiture of her retirement benefits and perpetual disqualification from holding public office. She will also be not eligible to take the civil service examinations. SOVEREIGNPH
