The local government of Quezon City is intensifying its lockdown of areas to stop the increase of coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) cases in the city.

As of the latest, a portion of Fairview was added to Quezon City’s Special Concern Lockdown Area (SCLA) list on Tuesday, bringing to 26 those under close monitoring for rising coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) cases.

“We have 26 lockdown areas now. About 36 families on lockdown in Fairview,” Mayor Joy Belmonte told the Philippine News Agency in a text message.

The areas in Fairview placed under SCLA starting Tuesday are Block 12 (Lot 1, 3, 5, 7, 9, 11, 13, 15) and Blocks 13 to 14 of Sto. Niño Village, Chestnut Extension.

Based on the data received by Belmonte from the City Epidemiology and Disease Surveillance Unit, there were 10 confirmed cases in the affected areas.

While under the SCLA, the local government will conduct contact tracing and subject resident to real-time reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (swab) tests. They will also have to quarantine for 14 days.

“The city government will continue to distribute food packs and essential kits to the affected families,” Belmonte said.

Based on the latest data from the its health department, QC still has 2,991 active cases while the total number of validated infections have reached 35,878.
