State-run People’s Television Network (PTV-4) on Wednesday vowed to impose disciplinary action on members of its social media team who posted an “erroneous” tweet against President Rodrigo Duterte by posting the hashtag “#DutertePalpak” (Duterte is a failure).
PTV-4 gave the assurance, as it took full responsibility for the supposed error in its post on social media giant Twitter.
“PTV New Media deeply regrets the error and take[s] full responsibility for the oversight. The management will certainly institute disciplinary actions against members of the social media team who are behind the erroneous posting,” it said in a statement.
PTV-4 launched an investigation after its Twitter post bearing the “malicious” #DutertePalpak hashtag went viral.
On Tuesday, PTV-4 took to Twitter the President’s renewed directive to distribute free face masks to Filipinos. The now-deleted tweet bore the #DutertePalpak hashtag used by the administration’s critics.
PTV-4 explained that the original caption that should have been posted on Twitter was, “President Rodrigo R. Duterte reiterated his order to provide free masks for the public especially to those who cannot buy their own.”
However, its social media team instead tweeted: “President Rodrigo R. #dutertepalpak BTS reiterated his order to provide free masks for the public especially to those who cannot buy their own.”
PTV -4 said the erroneous message was a result of “auto-correcting systems in the text entry phase and a failure to adequately review and screen the message that actually got posted.”
The state television network went off the air Wednesday to undertake extensive and thorough disinfection of its entire head office facilities to ensure the safety of its employees and staff amid the rising Covid-19 cases.
It will resume broadcast on Thursday for all non-station-produced programs and will be back on air on March 22.“Meantime, the network assures to continue serving the public’s need for news and information by constantly and continuously keeping its Facebook and social media pages updated with the latest developments,” PTV-4 said.
