FORMER president Joseph “Erap” Estrada has been moved to an intensive care unit (ICU) after getting pneumonia that stemmed from his getting infected by the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19).
Former senator Jose “Jinggoy” Estrada said his father is now in the ICU for “closer observation” but said the former president is in “stable but guarded condition.”
“While he needed to be placed on high flow oxygen support, we are thankful that there has been no need to put him on a ventilator,” he said on Facebook.
Jinggoy said his father has to be sedated “to lessen his anxiety which may affect his heart and aggravate his condition.”
“The family would like to thank everyone who has expressed their love and support and we request continued prayers for his immediate recovery,” he added.
Estrada was rushed to a hospital last March 28 after he tested positive Covid-19 and was reported to be in stable condition by then. He is 83 years old, possibly placing him in a high-risk group for Covid-19 because of his age. SOVEREIGNPH
