A research group that has been monitoring the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) pandemic in the country warned on Monday that total cases from the virus may reach at least one million before the end of April.
“Before the end of April, the Philippines is expected to have recorded more than 1 million total Covid cases,” OCTA Research said in it its latest monitoring report.
The total number of Covid-19 cases as of Sunday is 795,051.
It added that while there are some reductions in new Covid-19 cases in Metro Manila, there were rapid increases noted in other cities.
OCTA Research said lower one-week increases in Covid-19 cases were noted in the cities of Manila, Parañaque, Marikina, and Navotas, while negative trend was observed in Pasay and Makati.
However, “rapid increases” were noted in the cities of Mandaluyong, Las Piñas, and San Juan.
“The goal is for these LGUs to have low or negative one-week growth rates in new Covid-19 cases very soon,” OCTA Research stressed.
The research group also recommended increasing the hospital bed capacity and intensive care units (ICUs) for Covid-19 patients.“The addition of hospital beds and ICUs for Covid-19 has helped reduce hospital bed occupancy in some LGUs (local government units), but these will be filled up soon as the NCR Plus is expected to have a high number of new Covid-19 cases during the month of April,” it also said.
