Former President Joseph Estrada, who has been in a hospital for more than a week for the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19), is on a mechanical ventilator after his pneumonia worsened, according to his son.
“Yesterday, my father’s condition suffered a setback as his pneumonia worsened,” former Senator Jinggoy Estrada said on Facebook.
“Because of this and the resulting increase in oxygen requirement, his doctors decided to place him on mechanical ventilation. This was done to improve oxygen delivery as well as to prevent the tiring of his respiratory mechanism,” he added.
Jinggoy asked for prayers for his father’s recovery.
“My father has always been a fighter and I hope that with the help of your prayers he will win this battle. Please continue praying for his immediate recovery,” Jinggoy said.
Estrada was moved to an intensive care unit (ICU) on Sunday after getting pneumonia that stemmed from his Covid-19 infection.
Jinggoy then said that is father was transferred to an ICU for “closer observation” but added the former president is in “stable but guarded condition.” SOVEREIGNPH
